Note by UBS Gold & Numismatics:
For a comprehensive explanation of the sign of Capricorn on Augustus's coinage see K. Kraft, "Zum Capricorn auf den Münzen des Augustus", JNG 17, 1967. p. 17f. According to Suetonius, Augustus (Octavian) was born under the sign of Capricorn. However the moon, not the sun was in Capricorn at the time of his birth. Suetonius further relates that an astrologer, who cast Octavian’s horoscope, when he was a very young man, supposedly fell to his knees after seeing the configurations of the heavens at the time of Octavian’s birth and his future greatness.
